When the Enlish came to India they of coures brought their language with them, and it has been spoken in India, more or less for over a century and a half. At first, of course very few OIndians learnt it butnow it is half. At first, of course, very few indians learnt it but now it is spoken, written and read bylarge numbers and is the medium of instruction in colleges and the upper classes of schools. some object to use of english has become so necessary for educated people but that while we must cultiate out own tongues we must learn it and use it. Ti is not an easy language to learn the spelling and pronunciation being very irregular but its advantages are so great that nations, eash having its own languages. But its advanbtages are so gread that we cannot well doi without it.Indian is a contient of many nations easch having its own languges. But india is on the way to becoming a united nation, and is feeling the need of a common tongue, for one the chief obstacles in the way hoistorical reasons, English promises to be the common language or lingua franca of india at any rate for the educated classes and every one who pretends to eduction will have to know it.
